Bizarre Japan – Underwear that Helps you Lose Weight

Japanese weight loss underwear

I came across a video link on Twitter about a new underwear in Japan that claims to help you lose weight. Apparently it’s made of some sort of material that constricts so that it’s harder to move in. So does it really work?

calorie shaperCNet tells us they sell for between $30 and $38 per pair–are available in training and daily-life versions. The daily-life option is designed to hide under your usual clothing so no one will suspect you’re actually exercising as you stroll down the office hallway with a doughnut in your hand.

That means that wearing Calorie Shaper panties while eating ice cream bonbons on the couch probably won’t have much impact on overall weight loss. The underwear’s instructions do specify that you need to accomplish a certain amount of physical activity each day. – CNet

Apparently with a minimum of 1.5 hours of activity a day for one week you burn up to 210 calories, or one bottle of beer’s worth. That’s great news for people who like to drink beer while walking down the street!

Whether you believe in the funny science or not, I think the video is worth watching to at very least learn some hot, new dance moves.

Also, CBS News has a brief piece on this new Japanese weight loss craze. I dare you to get halfway through this video without wanting to give this news announcer a double-handed Spiderman punch to the side of the head. CBS won’t let me embed the video (boo!) so here’s the link.

Now I wonder if they come in a long underwear version for Canada?

I simply HAD to share this video on my Facebook. Dear god! Though with the right dancers and a new jingle this could be huge in America. ;)

Haha, love it!! Dancing in my underwears!! I guess it would make you move knowing that you could just lose weight wearing the underwear and moving.

This underwear was featured on a replay of Cool Japan this week. It was very interesting how they invented it.

We had those in France about 10 years ago (in the form of tights only, but I think now they do a ‘spanx-style’ version… They were made with caffeine I believe. I HAD to have them… I’m not sure it did anything (it got me smooth legs, but that’s about it).

Clothing made with caffeine?! I have to have some!

  7. Frenchy  on April 8th, 2014,fr,sc.html?forceLanding=true This is a French website which lists quite a few new products that claim to ‘sculpt’ the leg (whatever that means). I can’t see here any mention of caffeine (it was the same brand though), but I have seen a forum (dated 2006) which talks about it, so I’m pretty sure the first prototypes included caffeine to market its ‘melting’ benefits. Here is also a UK product that resembles the claim:
